International Microorganism Day – Microcosmos
Microcosmos: International Microorganism Day 2024
microbiaX online programme · 20–23 September 2024 · India
To mark International Microorganism Day, microbiaX ran “Microcosmos,” a multi-day online programme to advance microbial sciences, raise public awareness, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
Special issue of the microbiaX digital magazine: a September 2024 edition dedicated to International Microorganism Day, with contributions from experts and enthusiasts worldwide on advanced microscopy, algal diversity, microbial-innovation businesses, and microbes as inspiration for engineering, plus a feature on Antonie van Leeuwenhoek.
Expert sessions:
• Dr. P. Palani, Director and Head, Centre for Advanced Study in Botany, University of Madras – “Overcoming Challenges in SEM: Expert Tips for Precise Sample Preparation,” with a virtual tour and demonstration of SEM equipment (20 September)
• Prajwal Rajbhandari, Co-Founder and President, Research Institute for Bioscience & Biotechnology (RIBB), Nepal – “Himalayan Lactic Acid Bacteria Project: An Introduction” (21 September)
• Sajeetha Kannan, Founder, microbiaX – “[Microcosmos]” (23 September)
The program also launched a crowdsourced case series, inspired by The New York Times’ “Diagnosis” column, bringing microbiologists, experts from other fields, and the public together to explore microbial cases.
